Root canal treatment

Root canals are the tunnels through which nerves and blood vessels pass.
The pulp is located in the center of the tooth. When the infection spreads from the enamel to the dentin and then to the pulp, it is called pulpitis. If it is inflamed and the tissue around the root cementum is inflamed, the inflammation spreads to periodontitis or even granuloma, abscess.
Symptoms that may indicate some of these diseases are:
Very often, when granuloma or periodontitis appears, there may be no obvious symptoms. In such cases, the disease can be detected during a preventive examination or on an X-ray. Based on the X-ray, the doctor will determine the specific treatment, which can be carried out in 2-3 visits under anesthesia.
Sometimes it is necessary to take antibiotics in advance, depending on the condition of the tooth and the infection.
Extraction (removal) of a nerve:
A cofferdam (a barrier to isolate the tooth from water and saliva) is placed, the tooth is drilled down to the pulp, and the nerve tissue is removed (root canal treatment). The dentist disinfects continuously and takes another X-ray to determine whether the cleaning has reached the tip of the root canal. The root canal is filled with a rubber-based medication (to prevent bacterial infection).
It is possible that there will be pain for a few days afterwards.
Due to the anaesthetic, the area may remain numb for several hours after treatment, so avoid chewing on the filled area. If the dentist considers it necessary, they will prescribe antibiotics or painkillers.
At home, you can apply ice to the area (externally) for 5 minutes every hour to prevent swelling. Rinse your mouth with warm, slightly salted water and eat regularly, but choose softer (liquid) foods for the next two days.
Please avoid alcohol and cigarettes for the next 24 hours!
Root canal treatment is an extremely successful procedure in about 95% of cases. Very often, well-treated teeth last a lifetime.
