How to deal with bad breath in babies?

Bad breath is something that rarely happens in infants.

Usually, a baby has bad breath in the morning because the bacteria that cause bad breath “infect” the entire mouth and multiply. This happens because salivation is reduced, which reduces the mouth’s defenses against harmful bacteria.

Here are some useful tips that will help you cure bad breath in infants:

  • If the baby does not yet have teeth, clean cloths and gently rubbing milk residue and other food products from the gums and oral cavity will help to clean the mouth.
  • Check for foreign objects in your baby’s mouth or throat. A foreign object in your baby’s mouth can cause bad breath. If you find one or suspect one, take your baby to the hospital and let the doctors handle the extraction of the foreign object. This way, you won’t cause more danger to your baby while you try to remove the object.
  • On the other hand, if the baby already has teeth, it is advisable to brush the teeth with a soft-bristled brush, gently and carefully.
  • However, if bad breath persists for no apparent reason, you should observe his habits. Does he tend to suck on objects that have a bad smell? If this is the case, monitor the child and always offer these objects clean and disinfected. Don’t worry about sucking on objects – children quickly forget this habit.
  • If you have done everything you can to get rid of bad breath and your baby still has it, it is best to consult a doctor. In some cases, bad breath is caused by internal diseases. The doctor will check the sinuses and tonsils, which may be the likely cause of bad breath.
